We are proud to announce Project IGNITE!
An innovative new resource developed by physical educators, for physical educators. Visit SPARKecademy.org to get started.
What is it?
The mission of Project IGNITE! is to share resources which elevate the physical education profession and aid in shifting from teacher evaluation to professional growth by demonstrating what effective teaching looks like in a physical education setting.
We developed an innovative online resource package to support every administrator, physical education teacher, university professor, and pre-service teacher. This resource package includes SPARK Lesson Checklists, Effective Teaching Resource Document and the Project IGNITE! Video Library. All resources are available for free on SPARKecademy.org.
Why is it needed & how will it impact educators?
The SPARK Innovation Team identified one of the biggest questions facing many physical educators in our profession today is “What does effective teaching/learning look like in our content area?”
A recurring problem is the minimal knowledge about what evidence-based teaching practices look like in this unique setting. There are many resources available that allow you to read about what effective teaching looks like, but there is nothing that shows us visually.
We are proud to announce that we have created a set of written resources and a bank of categorized videos that administrators, educators, higher education professionals and pre-service teachers can access online for FREE.
This project will impact teachers nation-wide as we now have a set of videos that will show us what basic, proficient, and distinguished teaching looks like in a physical education setting.
The online resources and the video library will also allow us to begin having collaborative conversations about what effective teaching looks like in a physical education setting.
As part of this project we are sharing multiple resources to support every administrator, physical education teacher, university professor and pre-service teacher.
The resources include:
- SPARK Lesson Checklists
Teachers can use these quality lesson checklists to self-reflect on their lessons.
- Components of Effective Teaching: What Does it Look Like? Resource Document
This resource document shares simple best practices found in a physical education lesson that can be observed when viewing a lesson.
- Project IGNITE! Video Library
This library contains a bank of videos that have been crowd-sourced and vetted by an elite group of effective physical educators. These videos show what basic, proficient, and distinguished teaching looks like. The videos align with the Project IGNITE! categories of effective teaching: Design, Instruction, Management and Assessment.
