Presidential Youth Fitness Program Grant
Congratulations to the recipients of the second round of the Presidential Youth Fitness Program grants!
As a research-based public health organization, SPARK applauds the hard work and forward thinking that has led to the development of the Presidential Youth Fitness Program. SPARK believes strongly in the power of assessment, quality professional development, and motivational recognition and has long been an active President’s Challenge Advocate. We’ve also created an equipment list to help grant recipients implement or enhance their fitness assessment! The list includes items like the ‘Crunchmat’, a mat that becomes an abdominal-crunch platform with raised edges and lightly texture surface to indicate start and finish points of each crunch movement without looking down. The widths are the national standards for abdominal crunch distances for students grades K-5.
Grant Funding Information:
The Presidential Youth Fitness Program is a voluntary program that includes an assessment, professional development, and motivational recognition to empower students to adopt and maintain an active lifestyle. The inaugural funding opportunity will facilitate participation in the Presidential Youth Fitness Program for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years. Schools that are selected to receive funding will not receive a check to purchase materials or supplies, but will receive the FITNESSGRAM assessment, training and awards for students.
The third round of funding will support schools participating in the Presidential Youth Fitness Program for the 2015–2016 & 2016–2017 school years. Applications were accepted online from Jan. 1 through Feb. 9, 2015. Awards will be announced April 2015.
